I have so much fun playing along with stamping challenges. This one I am partaking in is from My Favorite Things, Challenge #84. There are four colors provided: Nightshift Blue, Orange Fizz, Cornflower and Lemon Chiffon. You can use as many as you like and you don’t have to have the exact colors (which I don’t). When I do challenges like this, I like try and use as much product from that company as I can. For this challenge, my inks are from Altenew however my stamps are from My Favorite Things. The stamps I’ve selected to use are: Sketchy Flowers, All About You and Whimsical Wishes. I purchased the My Favorite Things May card kit and it has been used heavily. I love the flowers and there are so many sentiments; you can’t go wrong with this card kit. While the kit is sold you, the stamps are available separately from the company.
To make my card, I started with and A2 sized white card base and used the Altenew Starlight blue to color the four sides of the paper. This will be my background. I then took and another white cardstock and using my STAX rectangle die made this piece of paper slightly smaller than A2. The next part you had to plan ahead. I placed, in the middle of the card another smaller STAX rectangle to use for placement. I placed and die cut the tulip dies within this rectangle area. Then, I placed the STAX rectangle again (over the tulip area) and this time I only de-bossed the rectangle. I wanted the rectangle to have dimension and pop up on the card. I then die cut a few tulips so that I could layer them and have additional dimension. I stamped the tulip image in Altenew Tide Blue and the stems in Forest Glades. I colored the images in with my Prismacolor colored pencils and highlighted with some Wink of Stella. I wanted my tulips to be blue with a bit of yellow inside them. I love the coloring of Parrot Tulips. I decided I wanted to be a bit un-traditional and instead of putting the tulip inside the die cut area, I put some ‘lemon chiffon’ colored paper behind the die cut and placed the tulips outside the area so the yellow would pop out at you. I used the stem stamp from Whimsical Wishes and stamped multiple times above and below the middle rectangle in Altenew Citrus Burst, Stampin Up Only Orange, Altenew Tide Blue and Altenew Starlight. Lastly, since orange is the complementary color to blue I had to pop the sentiment up using orange paper. The sentiment was from the All About you stamp set.
That completes my card. I hope some technique or idea I’ve shared has inspired you to go create yourself! Have fun!
