Impressive Heat Embossing & 2Fer

I’m excited to say I am now progressing toward my Altenew Educator Certification Program, Level 2.  I’m happy to say that means that I’ve completed Level 1, Yea!

To kick off this new level, I’ve started with the class by Sveta Fotinia, called Impressive Heat Embossing.  Sveta has such a passion in her classes for using embossing techniques in different ways.  Some I had never even thought of, others I’ve never tried.  It was hard for me to pick which technique to showcase as there are so many good ones.

I experimented with many of her techniques, but when I used clear embossing powder on kraft cardstock, I knew where I was going.  I’m going to create a 2fer with this technique.  I started by creating two pieces of cardstock (white and kraft) of the exact (very important for this technique) same size.  Next, I used my stamping platform, placed my cardstock inside (off center so I could go off the edges), and placed my stamp images (Altenew Wild Hibiscus) where they were appealing to me (upper left side).  I stamped the white cardstock with versamark ink then embossed with antique gold embossing powder.  I choose this color as it was close to the kraft cardstock color.  I replaced the cardstock with the kraft cardstock (in exactly the same place) and using versamark ink stamped and embossed with clear embossing powder.  I did this twice, rotating each panel 90 degrees so that the embossing covered all four sides.  I decided to use a square stitched rectangle to cut out of the middle of both the embossed panels (in the exact same place).  I can now swap the pieces between the cardstock and we create a beautiful, unique look (gorgeous – LOVE the kraft and clear embossing).

To complete my first card (which is 5-1/2″ top folding), I trimmed the kraft embossed panel down and lightly tacked it to my card base so I could position the inside square panel.  I adhered the white square inside and removed the kraft panel. I placed some foam adhesive on the kraft panel and replaced it over the square.  Lastly, I stamped my sentiment from the Altenew Just Because stamp set with Altenew Jet Black ink. Simple and yet it looks so wow!

My second card (which is 4-1/4″ top folding), I trimmed down the panel creating a very small border piece.  I adhered this directly to my card base.  I placed my white embossed piece inside the border and adhered my kraft square to the card base.  I removed the white embossed piece and mounted it in place with foam adhesive. This definitely gives some dimension to the card. I decided to go with a very simple sentiment from the Altenew Wild Hibiscus stamp set – “we appreciate you”.  I thought the simplicity of the sentiment with the busy background was a nice compliment to the design.

I always love when I can get two cards at one time, and these both turned out so lovely, I can’t wait to pop them in the mail.  I hope you like them too.
