Seriously, if you haven’t investigated the Altenew Online Courses, you really should spend a few minutes. I’ve just completed another amazing class called: One Layer Wonders instructed by Kelly Latevola. Six lessons filled with amazing content. Really a worthwhile investment in time and money (which is minimal).
I was inspired by many of her classes and am still experimenting with the techniques she shared. These are all techniques I will be incorporating into my regular card making. I have two one-layer cards to share today. The first was so simple, but the result fabulous. Its from her first lesson. My card starts with a side folded card. I stamp my sentiment and mask it off. Then I stamp a pattern around the white space (I used the Altenew Dearest Friend stamp set). Before I remove my mask, I use an a marker and out line the masked area. I lightly color in some of the stamped background and the key, is adding the shadow around the area that had been masked off. This really makes the sentiment pop and give dimension to this one layer card! Lovely!
My second card, which I watched the demonstration, I was thinking, no way. So, I had to try it. This is the watercolor painting underlay technique. Using the Altenew Wild Hibiscus (Love this set) I stamped a few of the images on low tack paper to use as masks, but also to use to design the image I wanted to create. Once I had my layout designed, I stamped and masked it onto watercolor paper. I didn’t really like the way it looked, so I went to bed to come back another day. I decided to give this a go and see how it played out. I pinned the paper to a hard surface and using Altenew inks water colored the background. Was I ever surprised. The whole image came to life and I love how it looked. I let everything dry then came back to finish the technique. I used the Altenew Artist Markers to highlight areas on the images to brighten them up but not take away from the watercolor and the scary part, going in and adding a deep dark drop shadow. I completed the image by adding my sentiment and drawing a border around the image. I’m glad I took a break and came back to this project. I love how it turned out and – its a one layer card! Fabulous. Kelly, your class is awesome! Thanks for sharing so much with us.
This is my fourth class as part of the AECP Level 3 program.
